It’s advice I’ve heard before and advice I try to heed. When ever it feels slow, I remember the advice. It feels like returning to the barre for ballet. Return to the basics.
The advice is “Your story knows what it wants to do. Your job is to get out of the way.”
Today I was afraid of my writing session. I could only see bad writing in the future, all the things I’d have to rewrite in the next draft. Trust the story. It knows what it wants to do. So I just wrote. I wrote about the images I thought should come next. I knew they weren’t enough but I just went along with what I was feeling. I wrote a very nice section. I feel good about it.
You’re a creator because you’re a creator. You know what you need to do. Get out of your own way and you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
